Description
The Sutter’s Fort State Historical Park, located in Midtown Sac, commemorates the legacy of John Sutter, one of the historic founders of Sacramento along with his son. Sutter, relying on the labor of the indigenous Nisenan population, built this settlement in 1839 as a “bastion of civilization” in the Central Valley. The fort now exists as a well-preserved historical museum and park, open to the public.
