Thalia had acquired a bit of Amalia White’s blood1 and intended to use it to prove she was a diablerist. She called the Keeper of Elysium, Lauren Harris to arrange a meeting at The Blessed Sacrament. There, Lauren tested the blood and found Thalia’s claims about Amalia’s diablerie to be true.
Lauren pinches her nose. “Just when I thought my job couldn’t get more stressful.” “What I should do is report this as a violation of Elysium and demand retribution. Exile from the city, a blood hunt, you get the idea.”
“That is what you should do. What are you actually going to do, however? I know what this looks like.”
“I don’t know, because doing what I should do is liable to get me staked and chained in a basement.” “Amalia is a pillar Primogen. She’s the only Primogen that Mark likes. I doubt that Mark would accept my judgement.”
After a classic impassioned speech from Thalia, Lauren offered two ways about it.
“First, you cause enough of a scene that the council has to do something. I heard about the protest at the art museum, that was smart.” “Otherwise, you motivate someone in the Camarilla, other than me, to protest. I would reason that Joey doesn’t know the whole truth about what Amalia has done, and Reginald would be mortified to hear this news.”
In the end, it was decided that Lauren would write a letter to Reginald to arrange a meeting. Him and most of the other Primogen didn’t want war, and they respected tradition. In exchange, Thalia would tell her people to avoid Sutter Park.
At the meeting with Reginald, Thalia handed him the letter Lauren had written. He didn’t seem particularly happy to see her, but after reading the letter, he gasped. He would ensure justice was served, and in exchange he asked a favor from her.
Reginald returns with about four blood bags in his hands. The driver helps him into the carriage. “You will make a donation this evening. This will not hurt your movement or put you at odds with it.”
They headed for the river, and Reginald regaled Thalia with the story of how he came to Sacramento. His sire, who passed shortly after his embrace, had granted him an eye for gold, which he used to build his kingdom. They spoke of his farms and banks which he suggested would solve the feeding problem. Thalia understood the sentiment of not wanting to endanger human lives for feeding, but suggested that the animals were also innocent. Reginald seemed to think the notion that animals could think or feel was a funny joke.
Eventually, they stopped at the river, and Reginald told Thalia that she’d be donating blood. He gave her a knife, and she sliced down her arm.
Thalia feels the blood drain from her body. It seems innocuous, until her vision grows blurry. She doesn’t see the water, growing red with her blood. She sees a sarcophagus, outlined in the various symbols of the clans. Many of the symbols softly glow, and Thalia sees her own clan’s symbol start to glow as well.
She downed two bags of blood and hunted down a petty thief for another.
