After the previous night’s scare1, Gabriela stayed the night with Zora. The following night, she received a text from Sam that she was going out to the bar. Zora then told Gabriela that Kabir wanted them to investigate a new potential cure for his condition.
Zora drove them in her run-down Pontiac to Kabir’s apartment. She asked what Gabriela had been busy with lately, and she informed her about some of her recent business with the Giovanni, wanting to keep herself safe from Mazhar, not trusting him to keep his word that he’d forgiven her from the previous night.
Kabir’s apartment was hardly more luxurious than Zora’s, but he excitedly invited them both in and told them they’d be meeting with a Doctor Prescott, a doctor whom he’d met with nearly a century ago and was convinced could help heal him. Zora and Gabriela were both suspicious but hid this from Kabir.
They ventured to a shady ass warehouse by a river where they met with Doctor Prescott. He looked sickly, and had an eye in the center of his forehead.
This “doctor” gives Gabriela a bad feeling. “Doctor Prescott! It is I, Kabir Rafati. We met in Egypt.”
The doctor puzzles for a moment. “Hm? Oh, yes, Egypt. Long ago. How goes things?”
“Poorly! My leg is useless, cursed by a Tzimisce assassin! I need your healing.”
He ushered them in, examined Kabir and stated that he’d be able to start treatment, but in exchange he’d need permission to provide services to any wounded Kindred regardless of affiliation. Kabir deflated at the notion of helping Anarchs, while Zora and Gabriela seemed more concerned with their ability to sway the Primogen Council to allow it. They spoke privately.
Once the group is confident enough in their privacy, whatever that entails, Gabriela will say the following to Kabir: “Primogen, I ask only out of curiosity, how has the Camarilla helped the clan as of late? I haven’t been as recent as I’d like to be.”
“They have provided us protection and hospitality. And if we are to remain in their favor, I must be back in fighting shape. That is what makes me consider his offer, even if it means he helps traitors.”
Kabir pauses and thinks. Zora tries to help, weakly. “In these days, you’re on one team or the other. And we would like to be on the team that tolerates us best.” Kabir does not seem to appreciate Zora’s answer.
After some deliberation, and hesitancy about whether or not being part of the Camarilla was helpful at all to the Banu Haqim, Gabriela promised to try. At the Primogen’s suggestion, she’d speak with Sheriff Calimastia about the request. And to satisfy her own suspicion, she’d need to do some digging on the doctor to confirm whether or not he was a charlatan.
At some point that night, Gabriela spends a significant amount of time concocting a text for Calimastia Ayton.
“NEED TO SPEAK WITH YOU. LMK (LET ME KNOW) WHEN YOU ARE AVAILABLE. - GABRIELA”
She gets a text back, almost instantly. “I can be outside the hotel in an hour?”
She sends a 👍 in response but it doesn’t render right, so Calimastia just receives the alt text.
“THUMBS_UP_ICON.ICO - GABRIELA”
