The Jackal looked into the disappearance of one Dr. Clark1 online, finding the following information:

Anyways, while not much information is present about her disappearance, they do find a LOT of information about Dr. Clark’s controversial research. She’s written a lot of dissertations and papers about the so called human condition that seem to border on violation of the Masquerade. The way she writes and speaks about her patients, between psych jargon, seem to talk about ‘uncontrollable urges’ and ‘how best to control desires for violent behavior’. She has an entire paper on the nature of hunger that feels a little too on the nose. It’s worth noting that most of these papers are very well sequestered on the internet-it’s only with eight successes that Jackal manages to uncover much of this at all. She’s won a lot of grants from Sterner Enterprises and similar corporations, and most disturbingly, Jackal notices some of what Anoush was mad at. She spends a lot of time ‘identifying the neuroses of dissidence’ in a few of her works.

Her work seemed like it would be helpful for someone trying to maintain their humanity, though simply reading her findings might not help in the same way as sitting down with her. They departed for the psychologist’s downtown office.

The locks had been melted, glass broken, a knife found at the scene of the crime. Jackal suspected that Dr. Clark had been taken by the Sabbat. The knife was typically used for hunting and had no fingerprints on it, but it did have blood, seemingly indicating it was enhanced with vitae. This seemed plausibly like the actions of a member of the Banu Haqim. They found an exit route through a fire escape onto a dumpster, confirmed by a dented lid. Following the trail led them to another seemingly abandoned building with a secret tunnel.

They followed the breadcrumbs through a tunnel system as old as the city itself. There were some active wards, which they managed to duck past into what looked like an abandoned subway station. There, they saw two people: Dr. Clark and Razdan Sorya walking with a sarcophagus. Additionally, there were guards carrying bows and crossbows

They catch the words “Sleeper” “Analysis” “Soul” and “Thank you”

They shot Razdan hard enough to make an escape with Dr. Clark. Once they were safe, she thanked them for rescuing her. When asked, she explained why they captured her.

“They wanted me to use auspex and dementation, on a torpid Kindred. To ‘read his soul’ as that woman said.”

“Do you know the identity of this torpid Kindred?”

“His name is lost. Wiped from even my powers. His sire dubbed him Asher, upon his rebirth. He is of the clan of Judges. A mighty sorcerer, at that.”

Then, after a conversation about what they’d do with her, she offered the information that Prince Sterner had rejected his humanity. They requested a more thorough dossier for later, but otherwise let the doctor go free.
