Calimastia got a call from Johnny. Someone’d whacked Rob.
“Auto shop. Rob was getting a quick bite, suddenly I hear him shouting. When I show up, some asshole in a trenchcoat’s running off, goes ghost. And Rob’s there, broken into pieces. It’s horrible, boss.”
Calimastia called in Gabriela, Johnny called in Kiryu, and all four met at the scene of the crime. This wasn’t an Anarch attack, clearly. Kiryu followed a trail of blood to an all-black SUV with tinted windows. He called Cali over to assist. Gabriela, meanwhile, investigated a different car.
Gabriela spoke to the man Rob had attacked. He was terrified, and had called the police, a role which Gabriela slid into well enough. She asked the man to describe what he’d seen.
“I just called the police. I was just attacked, and then someone appeared and killed a guy, and I ran, and I’ve been hiding, and I’m scared and don’t know what to do.” The man vomits a word salad. “The guy who saved me had a trenchcoat. Dark hair. I think he beat the other guy to death with his fists, he looked like some gangster. I didn’t catch much, I ran for my life.”
Then, she sent the man on his way.
The other two, meanwhile, got ready for a fight. Calimastia knocked on the window and received no response immediately. Then, after a few seconds, the nozzle of a gun poked out and fired a dart at Calimastia. Kiryu quickly shot out the tires. Another shot of another dart hit Calimastia and seemed to leave her with some form of poison. During the fight, the driver and the passenger called them “Blankbodies.” They won, easily enough, and they asked the people in the car what they knew. Why they killed Rob, and who sent them.
“We didn’t kill him. One of our blankbodies did. We came to check to see if he did the job.”
And after further intimidation:
“Ahh!” The man howls. With his other hand, he looked to have been reaching for something to attack Calimastia with. Despite failing the alertness roll, Calimastia’s response stops him in his tracks. “Leopold sends his regards, you sick freak!”
Finally, they found that whoever sent them was one Agent Pablo Rosewater. Then, they killed the both of them. Inside the car, they found a silver canister that emitted heat. A weapon of some kind, which Cali pocketed. They also found some cursory information such as the agents’ names, and their rank within the FBI.
Meanwhile, Gabriela noticed the back door of the van open and, unseen, went to investigate. She noted a barely perceptible trail of blood and, despite her quarry seemingly being shrouded by some form of Obfuscate, followed. This, of course, turned out to be none other than Lieutenant Mordecai Hayes.
They both stepped out of the shadows, and Gabriela told him he needed to slow down and be careful or else he’d get caught and killed. He seemed averse to this and Gabriela asked how old he was.
“I was embraced at age 48, in 2018.” “Do not let my youth, as you may see it, deceive you.”
She mutters something in Spanish. Even if Mordecai doesn’t speak the language, he can tell she’s annoyed.
Gabriela offered to help him, but they’d need to talk about it later. Despite some resistance, she managed to convince him to leave. Then, she covered up his tracks and returned to Calimastia.
They’d have to cover up the deaths of the two humans. Something Cali would take care of. Then she asked Gabriela about her lead. She lied and said it was nothing, a human in the wrong place at the wrong time. Cali shared that she got a name for the culprit, Agent Pablo Rosewater, and that she’d be going after him soon, as well as the fact they supposedly had a traitor kindred working with them. She suspected a Nosferatu based on the Obfuscate and Potence. Gabriela said she’d look into it, leaving Calimastia to report to the Prince.
