Title by Kaveh’s player

Fiora led Kaveh through a concentrated haze. A shortcut through Stygia.

Fiora leads Kaveh through the fog, brushing much of it away with her free hand. The fog parts, giving way to a strange, clashing sight. The City of Sacramento is both on fire and is flooding. Kaveh feels as if he’s trudging through flooded streets, while perpetual flames lick the buildings. The buildings lack fine details, instead resembling loose, gray outlines of buildings. “Do not talk to anyone who approaches us. Do you understand?”

She asked why he defended her. He didn’t have a good reason, other than familiarity. Then, he asked what she thought would happen.

“What do I think will happen?” Fiora can’t help but laugh. “The total collapse of the clan. Augustus is dead. Ernesto is dead. The Giovanni family is the backbone of the Giovanni clan, if that wasn’t obvious.”

Even if enough Giovanni made it out, it seemed unlikely they’d be able to regain the same level of status. He asked for more details about Mazhar, and after swearing to keep it secret, Fiora explained the following:

Fiora explains, “Ernesto believed that Mazhar was still an asset of the Giovanni. The two had an arrangement, Mazhar’s amnesty in exchange for Mazhar clearing the way for Ernesto’s rise to power. An open secret in the clan, yes, but no one wanted to stand against Ernesto and his best friend, the Methuselah.” “They don’t teach much, either. Long story short. Cappadocius was one of the 13 original antediluvians. That means 3rd generation. Cappadocius embraced Augustus Giovanni, who then diablerized him. Augustus and his family then spent the next centuries destroying every Cappadocian Kindred they could find.” “If Mazhar is the grandchilde of Cappadocius, that means 5th generation. Methuselah. Math.”

Fiora didn’t have any hope that Mazhar could be beaten, instead hoping that he’d simply turn his eyes toward Venice following the death of Ernesto. When he asked about the line of succession, she told him that the Maestro picks the next Anziani. Fiora would call him to warn him.

During their conversation, they were accosted by ghosts, begging and bargaining to follow them out. Toward the end of their jaunt, Fiora found it hard to ignore a particular figure, but managed. Eventually, they arrived at Fiora’s house. She told him not to touch anything, he offered some pins, and she took the gavel.
