Kaveh met with Neres. She allowed him to examine one of the relics, offering a necklace for him to listen to.

Kaveh feels the necklace vibrate around his neck, ever so slightly. Then, entering his ears, a panicked voice warns:The Saint, she’s coming! She’s going to find us! She’s going to kill us!”

Apparently, all the relics’ voices seemed to fear this Saint figure. For context, she explained some of Sacramento’s history, specifically that its native population was incredibly resistant to Spanish colonization.

“For a while, at least. Then, the Gold Rush happened, people come to California in droves, and that spelt the end of the Nisenan people, among many others.”

She believed The Saint was a Spanish colonizer, and asked he continue to help her with her investigation by learning the identity of The Saint at The Cathedral of Blessed Sacrament. Finally, he told her about Mordecai and his questioning about Father Lorenzo and Father Bernard, suggesting he might be looking into the same thing. Then, he made his leave for The Cathedral.

Kaveh wandered into The Blessed Sacrament and spoke with Father Lorenzo. After some faffing about and finally admitting they were both vampires, Kaveh asked about The Saint.

“Her name was Lucia Santos. Saint of Light.” “As a child, she was my inspiration. My guiding light as I received my confirmation. It pains my heart that I never met her.”

Apparently, though, she was slain.

Lorenzo’s expression becomes downcast. “She was slain by savages as she sought to spread the word of our Father in this land. I know not where she rests, or what state she may be in. Perhaps, by some miracle, she still is amongst us.”

Kaveh informed him, when asked, that Neres Zauvasi had asked him to look into the matter. Apparently Lorenzo and she had spoken previously, and bonded somewhat over their mutual interest in history.
